Conan draws inspiration for his tattoo style from the resilient, spiraled shell of a humble sea snail.
Over many dives in different seas, Conan saw the Voluta endure surf, currents, pressure, tides, wind, and storms. Yet it finds its footing and moves on. Life’s fluidity does not destroy it. Instead, it grows stronger each day, each revolution. Each curve becomes more pronounced and marked—visible secrets of a marvelous, individual adventure.

Our Story
Voluta Tattoo Studio was founded in 2006 by 28-year tattoo artist Conan Lea. After 14 years in the famous Stutz Building of downtown Indy, he moved the studio to Meridian-Kessler in 2020. Now residing on the Monon Trail, Voluta fits right in among the MK neighborhood’s amazing trees, food, and smiling people.
Voluta is a studio of clients and artists who became friends. Friends became family. That family then lifted Voluta and spread the message to like-minded collectors throughout the Midwest. With hundreds of clients ribboned together by miles of tattoo coverage spanning 19 years, Voluta is indeed a living tapestry! One that we cherish and now invite you to enjoy.
