Voluta is an inclusive studio founded by Conan Lea, a tattoo artist with 28 years’ experience. Established in 2006, Voluta reflects Conan’s vision for a creative and welcoming space, inspired by the women-led French Salons of the 1700s.
Here, clients and artists collaborate boldly—sharing ideas and inventing together. We offer custom designs and fearless conversation in both private and open sessions.

Not everyone does—and we like it that way. Voluta thrives on reputation, not foot traffic or advertising. Our sign is simply our sacred V. We have no retail phone, and we rarely make business cards. We don’t do walk-ins, either. If you’re here, it’s because you found us through someone who knows, or you felt the call to seek us out. We like to think this means you belong.

MEDICAL-GRADE STERILIZATION & SAFETY STANDARDS
Our safe, clean, and sterile tattooing processes are continually updated and tailored to the space we occupy. All artists are annually Bloodborne Pathogens Certified, and our Hospital-Grade Disinfection agent of choice is Cavacide, lovingly dubbed ‘Murder Juice’ at Voluta. We strive for standards beyond health department compliance. The surgeons, doctors, and nurses we tattoo lend their advice, meaning you are tattooed as safely as they are. Further, we will teach you how to handle yourself and your in-progress tattoo while we work. Education is power.

Our studio is visually curated to please your eyes in both day and night modes, stripped of the standard domestic clutter of modern homes and offices. We invite you to relax your body, free your mind of temporal awareness, and let your eyes drift through Voluta. We intend to calm your amygdala, a nugget of your brain primarily responsible for processing fear and emotional responses, making and keeping memories, and secreting the hormones you need for pain management in the moment. Voluta is a safe and beautiful environment, glad to soothe your fear and help your amygdala relax. Your tattoo will hurt less, and time will fly, so your artist—and your custom tattoo—will be remembered as gorgeous and brilliant.

Your coffee will be handmade by your artist. We are flush with bubbly drinks, but never soda pop because it's terrible for you. Fresh, chilled filtered water flows freely, while steamy filtered water is ready for our 20+ available teas. Snacks vary from protein-rich nuts to sweets to chips to whatever goodness your fellow collectors bring for community chomping! You can also bring your favorite snacks and drank; no judging here.
